Itinerary ~ MS Amarco

Day 1 – Friday Aswan Airport

Morning

Greeting and assistance at Aswan Airport (or railway station) and private transfer to the Cruise. Check-in after 12:00 Noon and have lunch on board. In the afternoon, visit the High Dam, the Unfinished Obelisk and the temple of Philae. The Philae Temple (the Temple of Isis) is one of the greatest Temples in Egypt and it occupies about a quarter of the island. The High dam was constructed to protect Egypt from the floods and provide irrigation and electricity across Egypt.

Afternoon

The Unfinished Obelisk developed cracks and was abandoned. It is nearly one-third larger than any ancient Egyptian obelisk ever erected. If finished it would have measured around 42 meters / 137 feet and would have weighed nearly 1,090 metric tons (1,200 tons). Enjoy a Captain’s welcome cocktail and dinner on board.

Day 2 – Saturday Kom Ombo

Morning

Sail to Kom Ombo and breakfast on board. Visit Kom Ombo Temple which was constructed during the Ptolemaic dynasty, 180–47 BC. The temple is unique because it is perfectly symmetrical and was built for two sets of gods. The south temple was dedicated to the crocodile god Sobek, god of fertility and creator of the world. The northern part was dedicated to the falcon god Horus.

Afternoon

Return to the ship, enjoy lunch and sail to Edfu. After lunch a visit to the Edfu Temple, one of the best-preserved shrines in Egypt. The temple was built in the Ptolemaic Kingdom between 237 and 57 BC. The inscriptions on its walls provide important information on language, myth and religion during the Hellenistic period in Egypt. In the evening enjoy dinner whilst sailing to Luxor via Esna. After dinner enjoy a festive Galabeya (Egyptian garment) party. Overnight in Luxor

Day 3 – Sunday Valley of the Kings & Queens

Morning

After breakfast a tour to the Valley of the Kings & Queens. The valley contains 63 tombs and stands on the west bank of the Nile, opposite Thebes (modern Luxor), where, for a period of nearly 500 years from the 16th to 11th century BC, rock cut tombs were excavated for the Pharaohs and powerful nobles of the New Kingdom. The royal tombs are decorated with scenes from Egyptian mythology and give clues as to the beliefs and funerary rituals of the period. Next is the temple of Hatshepsut (Queen and 5^th Pharaoh of the 18^th dynasty). This mortuary temple is dedicated to Amun and Hatshepsut and is considered one of the incomparable monuments of ancient Egypt.

Afternoon

Lunch on board is followed by a tour of Karnak and Luxor Temples. Karnak is one of the largest temple complexes in the world covering 200 acres of land. Dating back to 3400 BC it is dedicated to the Theban triad of Amun, Mut, and Khonsu. The Hypostyle hall, at 54,000 square feet (16,459 meters) and featuring 134 columns, is still the largest room of any religious building in the world.

Next visit Luxor temple, which is not dedicated to a god or a deified version of the king in death. Instead Luxor temple is dedicated to the rejuvenation of kingship; it may have been where many of the kings of Egypt were crowned. Alexander the Great claimed he was crowned at Luxor. Dinner on board followed by a Belly Dance Show and overnight in Luxor

Day 4 – Monday Luxor Airport

The MS Amarco Nile Cruise is over. Check out after breakfast and and end to the Nile cruise luxury! Transfer to Luxor Airport or railway station. If you don't want to go home we can organize a trio to Abu Simbel, Sharm EL Sheikh or Cairo.

Abu Simbel Excursion (Optional)

Why not visit the colossal Temple of Abu Simbel built by Ramses II (XIXth Dynasty) and lately saved from inundation of the Nile waters in among the glories of ancient Egyptian monuments. The temples were built out of a sandstone rock cliff, and representation of the deities to which each was dedicated is carved on its huge façade. Nearby, also saved, lies the small Temple of the King's wife Nefertari, dedicated to the goddess Hathor.
