ITINERARY
- BASEL - AMSTERDAM
Day 1. Basel
Afternoon embarkation starts at 4 pm and ship
leaves Basel
at 5 pm.
While cruising on the scenic Rhine enjoy a cocktail
reception before dinner is served
on board.
Day 2
Strasbourg
Morning arrival in
Strasbourg, the ancient capital of Alsace and one of
Europe's most attractive cities. After breakfast,
take a guided tour of the city with the
European Parliament building. Strasbourg is definitely well worth visiting for the
combination of its history, its cuisine and its unique atmosphere.
In the afternoon there will be an
Alsace and wine
excursion, during which you'll drive through the picturesque landscape
and romantic wine villages along parts of the famous Alsace wine route. The tour
includes a visit to a vineyard and a wine tasting session. Those on the
excursion return to Strasbourg for dinner, after which the ship departs towards
Speyer.
Day 3
Speyer - Manheim
Morning arrival in Speyer, the old imperial
city on the Rhine with impressive facades of various styles, winding alleys and
romantic squares. The guided walk includes a visit to its impressive
cathedral. The ship departs from Speyer at noon and during lunch
we
cruise on to Mannheim
situated at the
confluence of the Rhine and the Neckar. Its main street leads to an enormous
18th-century palace, formerly the seat of the Electors of the Palatinate but now
housing the University of Mannheim. Choose to do a
city tour of Heidelberg home of one of Europe's oldest and
Germanys oldest
university and the castle ruin overlooking the Neckar River with
fantasticc views. Departure from
Mannheim after midnight and continue towards Rudesheim.
Day 4
Rudesheim - Coblenz
Arrival early morning. During the walking tour of Rudesheim we will
visit this
charming old wine town with its
long narrow street lined on both sides with lively
wine
taverns.
Also we
include
a visit to Siegfrieds Music Museum, where all kinds of mechanical musical instruments from
barrel organs and music boxes to horn gramophones are displayed. Depart
Rudesheim at noon and will
cruise along
the most famous and scenic stretch of the
Rhine valley passing hilltop castles, terraced vineyards and attractive
waterside villages. During the afternoon arrive at the Lorelei Rock, which is
the symbol of this great river and inspired the poem by Heinrich Heine. Musical
tea party on board. In the afternoon arrive at Coblenz, located at the
confluence of the
at the Rhine and the Moselle rivers and a major hub of the wine region
populated since Roman times dating back to 55 BC. Optional walking tour of Coblenz.
Day 5
Coblenz - Cochem
Early in the morning departure from Coblenz
and arrive in Cochem on the shores of the lovely Moselle river
at
noon. In the afternoon you can take a walking tour through this quaint
small town with its fine medieval town gate and market place surroundedd
by many wine villages. Also visit to a
tavern for a wine tasting session.
At 6 p.m. the vessel leaves Cochem.
Day 6
Cologne
In the morning
ship reaches Cologne . Optional city walk of the 2000 year old
settlement of Cologne which was founded on the orders of the Roman Emperor
Claudius. You'll see Cologne's most important sights, its central old
quarter, the world famous Gothic cathedral,
cathedral, the town hall, the Guerzenich, the city walls and gate,
charming Romanesque
churches and historic squares. From the bank of the Rhine there
is a fine view of
the entire old quarter after which you visit the cathedral, which is Cologne's
icon and Germanys largest cathedral (depends on the opening hours of the
Cathedral and / or if a mass is celebrated etc.). After lunch you have
time to explore the city on your own before the vessel leaves Cologne in the
afternoon. Tonight enjoy the
Captains Gala dinner and the splendid ships orchestra, which has been
entertaining you in the bar throughout the cruise, will do its best to persuade
you to take a turn on the dance floor.
Day 7 Hoorn
- Amsterdam
Arrival at the typical
Dutch town of Hoorn a old harbor town on the shores of Western
Europe's' largest lake. It had major importance as the city of commerce during
Holland's golden age in the 16th century as a gateway for exotic spices and and
other precious goods arriving to Europe from the Seven Seas. From Hoorn we
embark on a coach excursion to the the northern Holland countryside of flat pasture lands, dikes, canals, windmills,
green-painted houses, wooden shoes and cheese. The bus
takes us to Amsterdam where we will continue with a city tour and a local canal
cruise to see
the city's most important buildings and monuments and learn
about its vivid history before rejoining the ship in Amsterdam at 5 p.m.
Rest of the day is free for own activities. Dinner on board.
Day 8 Amsterdam
Disembarkation after breakfast in Amsterdam. End of
the cruise.
ITINERARY - AMSTERDAM TO BASEL
Day 1
Amsterdam
Embarkation in Amsterdam starts at 4 pm.
Enjoy a
welcome cocktail party before dinner is served on
board. The ship remains moored overnight in
Amsterdam.
Day 2
Amsterdam Hoorn
In the morning join
our
optional
city tour of Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, or
choose to explore this interesting
and lively city on your own.
During the city tour you'll
drive past the city's
most important buildings and monuments and learn much about its vivid
history before
enjoying the very popular attraction of cruising through its canals.
Continue to the region called Waterland with its picturesque green
houses, water and wind mills, dykes, pastures and famous cheeses. We will
rejoin our cruise ship at Hoorn on the shores of Lake Ijsselmeer, the
largest lake in Western Europe. Continue sailing downward into Germany.
Day
3 Cologne After lunch
arrive
in Cologne. Passengers may join
our city walk of the former settlement
of Colonia, which was founded on the orders of the Roman Emperor, Claudius,
over 2,000 years ago. You'll
see Cologne's most important sights, old quarter, the
famed Gothicc cathedral, the town hall, the Guerzenich, the
city walls and gate, churches and historic squares. From
the bank of the Rhine there is a fine
view of the entire old quarter after which you visit the cathedral,
which is Cologne's icon and
Germanys largest cathedral. Its art treasures include a shrine housing the relics
of the 3 holy
kings. The ship
leaves Cologne after dinner.
Day 4
Cochem During the morning while cruising
enjoy the beautiful Rhine valley scenery.
Arriving on the gentle Moselle river, the ship
docks at Cochem after lunch, a quaint small
town in the center of the famous wine growing area. The local
a walking tour
includes, among other sights, Cochem's fine medieval town gate and market
place and a visit to a tavern for a wine tasting session. Then back to the ship for dinner and
an evening departure.
Day 5
Coblenz- Rudesheim Morning arrival
in Coblenz at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle.
Join an optional
walking tour and see the
highlights of this 2000-year old
city, surrounded by picturesque riverside scenery and backed by four
low mountain ranges. Its abundance
of cultural monuments and historic buildings, its narrow lanes
and alleyways, and the relaxed
and happy atmosphere of its squares and river promenades make
Coblenz a friendly place where tourists feel
right at home. This
afternoon you cruise through the glorious central stretch of the Rhine
valley, a UNESCO World
Heritage Site, passing charming villages, many castles and the legendary
Lorelei Rock. At 5 p.m. the vessel arrives in picturesque Rudesheim, where you can spend a pleasant
evening in the towns
Drosselgasse, a pedestrian street lined with shops and taverns. There
will be
a walking tour of the town including a visit to Siegfried's Music Museum, where all kinds of
mechanical musical
instruments from barrel organs and music boxes to horn gramophones are
displayed. The ship sails from Rudesheim in the late evening.
During the wine festival (limited dates) admire the the sparkling waters
illuminated by Greek fires and spectacular fireworks.
Day 6
Mannheim - Speyer - Heidelberg
Morning arrival
at Mannheim, situated at the confluence of the Rhine and the
Neckar. Its main street leads to
an enormous 18th-century palace,
formerly the seat of the Electors of the Palatinate but now
housing the University of Mannheim.
This morning you might want to join an excursion to
Heidelberg,
home to one of Europe's and
Germany's oldest university
founded in 1386. Our guided tour features a visit
to the city's imposing castle ruin
with fantastic views
overlooking the Neckar River
followed by a walking tour through the historic old quarter and the market
place.
We return to the ship for lunch and cruise on to
Speyer during the afternoon. This old imperial city
on the Rhine has had a rich and
turbulent past. Religious architecture steeped in history, impressive
facades of various styles, winding
alleys and romantic squares characterize it. The guided walk includes a look at
the old city gate and the Jewish baths. In the evening the vessel heads off
towards France. Tonight the captain welcomes all the
passengers to a
special dinner and optional dance accompanied by
the splendid ship orchestra, which has been
entertaining you in the bar
throughout the cruise.
Day 7
Strasbourg
Arrive in
Strasbourg,
the Unesco World Heritage site in the morning.
The ancient capital of Alsace and
one of Europe's most
attractive cities. After breakfast, join
an optional city tour. See the European
Parliament building and enjoy a guided tour of the inside of the vast and
famous cathedral (which
features carvings as delicate as any piece of lacework). Strasbourg is
definitely well worth visiting for its unique layout, the combination of its history, its
great cuisine and its
special
atmosphere. During lunch the
ship departs
upstream to Basel.
Day 8
Basel
Arrival in Basel in the morning. Disembarkation
after breakfast. End of the cruise.
