Southern Danube cruise Bucharest Budapest 

Day 1 ARRIVE IN VIENNA
Individual arrival in Vienna. Optional transfer to your hotel. The balance of the day is at your leisure.

Day 2 VIENNA
Your morning city tour takes you around the Burg ring, the circular road around Vienna's historic center with its elegant palaces including the Imperial Palace and the gothic Town Hall. You will also take a walking tour through Vienna's charming old town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that includes the Vienna Opera House, the Ringstrasse and St. Stephens Cathedral and the famous Vienna Riding School. The afternoon is free to explore on your own or to join an optional excursion to Schnbrunn Palace, former summer residence of the Habsburg emperors and an impressive example of Baroque architecture. Tonight, explore the vibrant Austrian capital on your own or possibly attend an optional Mozart and Strauss concert. (B)

Day 3 VIENNA - BUDAPEST - EMBARKATION
After checking out of your hotel in Vienna, we will drive to Budapest. Free time for lunch followed by a sightseeing tour of Buda and Pest. From the historic Buda Castle, enjoy a splendid view of the twin cities spread over both sides of the Danube. Your tour also includes the Fishermans Bastion. Afterwards, embark upon your river cruise ship, docked in the city center. This evening, meet your fellow passengers at the Welcome Dinner while your 5 star ship sails along Budapest's illuminated riverfront with the waters of the Danube reflecting the mirror images of buildings on shore. Day 4 MOHACS - PECS
Arrive in Mohacs during breakfast, then depart for your excursion to Pecs, a lovely Hungarian city and Cultural Capital. Founded more than 2,000 years ago by the Romans, Pecs was an important cultural base during many centuries of Ottoman rule. You will visit the Mosque Church, the largest structure surviving from the Ottoman period; the St. Peters Basilica, the city's main Catholic cathedral, as well as the restored Synagogue. Return to the pier at Mohacs, then cruise southbound toward Croatia. (B,L,D)

Day 5 VUKOVAR, CROATIA - NOVI SAD, SERBIA
This morning, enjoy a Yugoslav Civil War tour of Vukovar that will show you the Ovcara Memorial, the monumental cross that serves as a memorial to those who lost their lives during Croatias struggle for independence. Enjoy lunch on board as you cruise to Novi Sad, Serbia. On your afternoon walking tour of the city, you will see the Petrovaradin fortress, a mighty stronghold no enemy has ever breached, now home to a hotel, museum and artists studios. (B,L,D)

Day 6 BELGRADE
Arrival in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, and enjoy a panoramic tour of the city, that includes the Kalemegdan Fortress and the Serbian Orthodox Temple of St. Sava. As an alternative, take the Titos Memorial tour, which includes a visit to the House of Flowers where the tomb of Josip Tito is located. You will also see some of the many gifts Tito received during his presidency. The third option is to  visit a local distillery to taste the plum brandy and some other local specialties. or a bike tour to Ada Ciganlija island.  (B,L,D)

Day 7 CRUISING THROUGH THE IRON GATES
Today, enjoy a full day of cruising through one of Europe's most awe-inspiring natural wonders, the Iron Gates or Trajan's Gate separating the Carpathian Mountains from the Balkans. Here the Danube narrows as it winds through a series of precipitous gorges between Serbia and Romania. The banks of the river along this natural border are lined with sheer-faced rocks that stretch high overhead, the most scenic part of your Southern Danube journey. (B,L,D)

Day 8 VIDIN
Today at Vidin we visit Belogradchik, a beautifully restored castle dating back to the Dark Ages, located in a stunning landscape of unusual rock formations. Standing guard over the Danube at the Bulgarian frontier town of Vidin, this massive medieval castle has thick walls and four imposing towers, a stark contrast to the peaceful park that surrounds. Continue to the Baba Vida Fortress, the only entirely preserved medieval castle in the country.  Inside, you'll be treated to a historical re-enactment performance. An other option would be to go on a local pastry and yoghurt tasting tour or join a guided bike tour  to see some Ottoman sites. The ship departs early afternoon. (B,L,D)

Day 9 GIURGIU - VELIKOVO TARNOVO, ROUSSE, BULGARIA
After breakfast we embark on a tour of Veliko Tarnovo, the medieval historic capital of Bulgaria. See the Tsarevets hill with the old castle walls, the Patriarchal church and the Baldwin Tower. if you have the energy you might want to visit the Rock churches and monasteries of Ivanovo built into the site of the mountain. Evening is free for own activities. (B,L,D)

Day 10 ROUSSE DISEMBARKATION - BUCHAREST
Disembark the ship in Rousse and continue your tour by motor coach to Bucharest, capital of Romania, sometimes called the Paris of the East. The city tour will include the Open Air Museum showing rural life in Romania. Lunch, then visit to the Place of Parliament buildings. Evening is free for own activities.  (B,L)

Day 11 BUCHAREST.

Today we travel on a tour of Transylvania, the region famous for its legends and dark forests. First we drive to Sinaoa, the well known ski resort where we will visit Peles castle built in Romantic style for the Hohenzollaer the Romanian royal family. Continue to Bran castle near the town of Brasow where we will have lunch followed by the visit to the castle, often mentioned as 
Dracula's castle. Return to Bucharest, evening free.

Day 12 BUCHAREST
Breakfast, end of services. Optional airport transfer or other tours of Romenia(B)
