| Our tour will leave from Piazza San Bernardo, adorned by
Moses’Fountain, heading to Piazza della Repubblica, previously known
as “dell’Esedra” as its central area also called Esedra of the
Diocletian Baths is hidden now by the Fountain of Naiadi. We will
continue towards Via Sistina where we’ll leave the bus to start our
walking trough the ages, starting from the Spanish Steps and reaching
Piazza di Spagnawith the famous fountain “la Barcaccia” realized
from Pietro Bernini. Then the guided tour will lead you to the Trevi
Fountain, a baroque jewel, and to the Pantheon (meaning "Temple of
all the Gods"), a building in Rome which was originally built as a
temple to the seven deities of the seven planets in the state religion
of Ancient Rome. It is the best preserved of all Roman buildings, and
perhaps the best preserved building of its age. At the end of the tour
we will finally reach the gorgeous Piazza Navona built on the ruins of
the Domitian’s Circus adorned by the famous Fountain of the Four
Rivers, masterpiece of Gian Lorenzo Bernini realized in 1651. Tour will
end reaching the church of St. Peter with a description of his
marvellous square. |

2 <> ANCIENT ROME – afternoon |

With this tour you will enjoy the splendour
of the classic Roman Empire. Leaving Piazza San
Bernardo, adorned by Moses’ Fountain, we will head to Piazza Venezia.
Crossing the square we will admire on one side the Memorial to King
Vittorio Emanuele II and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. After this
ample view of an important part of the city, the guided tour will take
you to visit the Roman Forum, walking along the ancient pavement, which
crosses the evocative ruins of the Roman Forum, the Curia, the Reggia.
You will then admire the Temple of Vesta, the Arch of Titus and the Arch
of Costantine. The tour will continue with the visit of the massive
structure of the Colosseum (internal visit). Originally named Flavian
Amphitheatreit is a giant amphitheatre used for gladiatorial contests
and public spectacles. The amphitheatre, the largest ever built in the
Roman Empire, was completed in 80 AD under Titus, with further
modifications being made during Domitian's reign. The excursion will go
on visiting the Palatine Hill. The ancient “palatium”, historical
residence of the Caesars, from whose name is derived the use of the term
“Palace”, to indicate a seat of official power. |

<> VATICAN MUSEUMS and ST. PETER’S CHURCH - morning |
|
The purpose of this tour is the visit of the Vatican
Museums and a large part of the Vatican City, one of the European
microstates, situated on the Vatican Hill in the west-central part of
Rome, Its borders closely follow the city wall constructed to protect
the Pope from outside attack. Leaving the Piazza San Bernardo, adorned
by Moses’ Fountain the itinerary will continue passing by Via
Bissolati, Via Veneto and the Villa Borghese. After this ample panoramic
view, we will visit the Vatican Museums and the Vatican Galleries (lines
possible at the entrance). There you will admire the modern entrance
built for the Jubilee 2000, the Galleries of the Chandeliers, of the
Tapestries and of the Geographical Maps, the Sobiesky Hall and the
Immaculate Conception Hall. We will then stop to admire the Sistine
Chapel, seat of the Conclave, with the famous frescoes of Michelangelo.
Passing inside the Vatican Museums we will arrive into the Basilica of
Saint Peter, commonly called Saint Peter's Basilica, is one of four
major basilicas of Rome. It is the most prominent building inside the
Vatican City and built on the ruins of Old Saint Peter's Basilica.
On wednesday, due to the Papal Audience, the church of St. Peter will be
visited only from outside. |

4 <> CHRISTIAN ROME and OLD APPIAN WAY - afternoon |

Leaving from Piazza San Bernardo, crossing
Piazza della Repubblica, we will reach and visit the
Basilica of St. John in Lateran (internal visit), cathedral of Rome and
of the world, famous for its baroque and medieval masterpieces kept
intact inside of it. Hence, we will go to the Holy Stairs, consisting of
twenty-eight white marble steps, now encased by wooden steps. According
to tradition, the staircases were part of the praetorium of Pilate in
Jerusalem, hence were sanctified by the footsteps of Jesus Christ during
his Passion. Leaving the Basilica and skirting along the Mura Latine,
the tour will pass through the Porta di San Sebastiano to arrive on the
Ancient Appian Way, where we will find the Chapel of “Domine Quo Vadis”
there St.Peter supposedly met Jesus while the former was fleeing
persecution in Rome. We’ll reach the Catacombs and after the visit we
will continue walking along the Ancient Appian Way up to the Mausoleum
of Cecilia Metella, built around 50 B.D. On the way back, from the coach
you will enjoy the view of the Caracalla Baths: they were Roman public
baths, or thermae, built in Rome between 212 and 216 AD, during the
reign of the Emperor Caracalla. |

5 <> TIVOLI – morning or afternoon |

| Going along the motorway we will get to
Tivoli, a world-known small town since ancient times for its soothing
spring of “Acqua Albulea” (sulphureous baths). Crossing the Ponte
Lucano, we will admire the Tomb of Plautius Lucanus before arriving to
visit Hadrian’s Villa (from the parking till the entrance a walking
distance of 300 meters has to been calculated) built under the
homonymous emperor. We will continue our sightseeing with a visit of
Villa D’Este, famous for its water system, the architecture of its
gardens, the pavilions, the artificial caves and the fountains. |

6 <> ROMAN CASTLES - afternoon |
|
| We will leave Piazza San Bernardo, adorned by
Moses’ Fountain, passing by Piazza della Repubblica. Along the way we
will admire the Caracalla baths, the Arch of Constantine and the
Colosseum: this itinerary will take us on the Appia, passing under the
Porta di San Sebastiano (this is the route used by the ancient Romans,
who were going to the Castelli in the summer to enjoy the fresh breeze).
Passing through Castelgandolfo, today’s summer residence of the Pope,
we will arrive in Albano and then Ariccia. From the large bridge of
Ariccia one can admire a wonderful view of the hills and countryside. We
will pass through Genzano, Nemi, Rocca di Papa, Grottaferrata and
Frascati, going along the Via dei Laghi. |

7 <> ANCIENT OSTIA - morning |
|
| Ostia antica takes its name from the latin
word ostium meaning mouth. Founded as a military base, it became an
important commercial port for the supply of grain for Rome. Starting
from Porta Romana and proceeding along the main road - Decumanus Maximus
- we will visit the old metropolis and Piazzale della Vittoria. Next we
will visit the baths of Neptune, one of the public services of the city
constructed by Adriano and ornated with fine mosaics. Behind the
Bath’s of Neptune, the Firemen’s barrack of the Adrian’s age. The
visit will continue with the Theatre erected by Agrippa in the 1st
century b.c. From the top of the staircase you have a beautiful view of
the excavations. After having visited the House of Diana we will reach
the centre of Ostia where we will be able to admire the Forum, the
political centre of Ostia, the Temple of Rome and Augustusand the Baths.
The excursion will end with a visit of the Basilica: a large aula in the
form of rectangle encircled by an arcade, on the right side of which we
find the Round temple dating from the 3rd century. |

Running along Via Tuscolana, we will pass by Frascati, Grottaferrata and
Marino, lovely little towns of the Castelli Romani.
Driving on the Via dei Laghi, we will arrive at the Lake of Albano and
finally Castelgandolfo, summer residence of the Pope, where we will stop

12 <> CAPRI – 1 day |

After leaving Rome and driving along the
“Sun Route” motorway, we will cross the regions of Lazio and
Campania. From the road you will enjoy the view of the famous Abbey of
Montecassino. Arrival at the pier of Naples and embarque to Capri, an
island on the south side of the Gulf of Naples, that has been a
celebrated beauty spot and resort since the time of the Roman Republic.
From the small seaport of Marina Grande we will continue on board of a
minibus until Anacapri, little town located high on the hills. After
lunch transfer to the town of Capri, where you will have free time at
your disposal to go for a walk through the characteristic streets and
taste a good coffee in the celebrated “Piazzetta”. - The visit to
the Blue Grotta can be managed directly on he island with our guide
paying Euro 23,00 per person. At 4.30 pm the group will meet at the pier
of Marina Grande to embark back to Naples.

| After leaving Rome and driving along the
“Sun Route” motorway, we will cross the regions of Lazio and

the city: the pier of Santa Lucia with its impressive Castel dell’Ovo,

in 79 A.D. Return to Rome. |

14 <> PAPAL BLESSING and ST. ANGEL FORTRESS - 1 day |

| Leaving Piazza San Bernardo, adorned by
Moses’ Fountain, the itinerary will continue passing by Via Veneto and
Villa “Borghese”, surname of a family of Italian noble and papal
background. Then we will reach the fortress “Castel Sant’Angelo”,
which the original structure was built between the 117 and 138 A.D. and
was commissioned by the Roman Emperor Hadrian as a mausoleum for himself
and his family. Castel Sant’Angelo, whose name probably is the result
of a miraculous apparition of Archangel St. Michael sheathing his sword
as a sign of the end of the plague of 590 A.D., passed under the Papal
State’s property converting it in a fortress –prison, in a castle
and in a refuge for the Popes: Pope Nicholas III connected the castle to
St. Perter’s Basilica by a covered fortified corridor, a secret
passage way called “Passetto del Borgo”. Ended the visit of the
fortress we’ll walk along Via della Conciliazione – having a
wonderful panoramic view of the Basilica of St. Peter, to reach the
square for the Holy Father’s Blessing. |

After a short panoramic tour of its northern
part, we will leave Rome, by the “Sun Route” motorway. Our first
stop will be in Orvieto, gorgeous medieval small town, famous for its
Cathedral.
We will spend the day visiting Umbria, rich in vineyards, olive groves
and nice villages on top
of the hills. The itinerary is full of charming medieval cities: Spoleto
(world-famous for the
“Festival dei Due Mondi”), Trevi, Foligno, Spello, and the most
celebrated: Assisi, the mystic city of St.Francis. The city, still
surrounded by ancient walls, lays on top of the green slopes of Mount
Subasio. Its rose-stone buildings, the winding narrow streets, the noble
palaces, the balconies full of flowers: everything in Assisi will hold
you spellbound. Visit of the church of St.Mary of the Angels and of the
Basilica of St. Francis, with the masterpieces of Giotto and Cimabue. It
will be a pleasure to wander about, looking into the small artisan shops
of the old city. Break for a genuine lunch in a typical restaurant.
Return to Rome.

| After a short panoramic tour of its northern
part, we will leave Rome, by the “Sun Route” motorway, crossing the
regions Lazio and Umbria, to reach our destination: Florence. City of
Etruscan- Roman origins, it flourished in the Middle Ages as a free
commune. Furtherly refined by the Renaissance Art and enriched by the
Medici rule, Florence is the cradle of Italian language. We will arrive
in the heart of the city to visit the Galleria dell’Accademia, where
the original David by Michelangelo is kept, together with the Third
“Pietà” and the Prisons, also by Michelangelo (for technical
reasons this visit could be replaced with a visit of the Opera del Duomo).
We will then proceed to the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, with the
magnificent dome projected by Brunelleschi, the Baptistry with the
golden bronze doors by Ghiberti and Giotto’s Belfry. From here, we
walk to Piazza della Signoria with the Palazzo Vecchio, Florence’s
Town Hall, the Loggia dei Lanzi with the Perseus by Cellini and the
Fountain of Neptune. After lunch, we will go to Piazza Santa Croce free
time at disposal to visit the church of Santa Croce (with the graves of
Michelangelo, Galileo, Rossini, Machiavelli) or to go into some typical
shops, such as the ancient “School of Leather”. Departure for Rome
and arrival at 9.00 pm aprox. |

After leaving Rome and driving along the "Sun Route" motorway, we will
cross the regions of Lazio and Campania. From the road you will enjoy
the view of the famous Abbey of Montecassino. Upon arrival in Naples
steamer to Capri.
On arrival, weather permitting, optional visit of the Blue
Grotto, by rowing boats ( should the visit of Blue Grotto is impossible,
it will replaced by a visit to Faraglioni ). On the way back, from the
harbour of Marina Grande, we will go to Anacapri, a tiny and picturesque
mediterranean-style village with a wonderful view on the whole Gulf of
Naples. Lunch break in a typical restaurant. Free time at disposal to
reach the celebrated "Piazzetta" and to wander trough the characteristic
