Danube Harmony Cruise Itinerary:

Day 1  Embarkation on the DANUBIA in Passau, the city where three rivers meet. The ship leaves port at 4 p.m. and takes you through a lovely stretch of the Danube known as the Schlögener Schlinge. After these first scenic impressions of the Danube, our courier on board will welcome you with a cocktail before the official welcome dinner.

Day 2   At about 11.30 a.m., the DANUBIA puts into port at Vienna. The entire day is at your disposal to discover the metropolis on the Danube. The city of music and joie de vivre where Sachertorte and Heuriger are just as famous as St. Stephen's Cathedral and the Imperial Palace.See all the important sights on our Vienna sightseeing tour (opt.) or explore this city full of tradition on your own. You can also join our excursion to the magnificent Schönbrunn Palace (opt.).  The ship leaves the port of Vienna at 6 p.m. and heads downstream for Budapest.

Day 3  You dock in Budapest, capital of Hungary, at 11.00, and enjoy lunch on board.Budapest is a city made up of two parts: Buda and Pest, built on opposite banks of the Danube. Buda is the older and more graceful part, with its cobbled streets and medieval architecture, while Pest is the administrative and commercial centre, with wide avenues and impressive 19th-century public buildings. East meets West in this fascinating city, and this can be seen in the variety of shops and restaurants. This afternoon you may join a city sightseeing tour (opt.), or look around Budapest at your leisure. This evening the ship will take you for a night-time cruise along the Danube, passing under the city’s numerous bridges.

Day 4  You spend the morning at leisure. After lunch, you have the option of leaving the ship and joining a coach excursion via Szentendre to Esztergom (opt.). The ship sails from Budapest at 13.00.Those of you choosing to remain on board can enjoy a relaxing cruise around the “Danube Bend”, passing the shipyards of Obuda and the abutments of a Roman bridge, which once formed part of a military road from Gaul to Asia Minor. You continue past the busy town of Vác, after which the course of the river turns north as you follow it past Visegrad castle to Esztergom.
Your ship moors at Esztergom at 19.00 and sails with all passengers at 20.00.

Day 5   This morning you arrive in the republic of Slovakia. Your ship docks at 07.30 in the city of Bratislava, which celebrated its 2000th anniversary in 1991. Now capital of Slovakia, it was also capital of Hungary for a while during the late Middle Ages, which is a good illustration of how the chequered histories of these central European countries are inter-related. A city sightseeing tour (opt.) shows you the sights of Bratislava, including the Castle, now the official residence of the President of Slovakia, and the cathedral, where the Kings and Queens of Hungary were crowned for over 250 years: its steeple is topped by a tiny gilded Hungarian crown. Sailing from Bratislava around 11.00, you reach Vienna at 19.00.After dinner on board, the Evening Excursion Vienna (opt.) takes you to the Prater and a typical "Heurigen" wine tavern, where you can enjoy a glass of wine. Around 23.00 you leave Vienna and continue upstream overnight into the Wachau region of Austria.

Day 6   You sail past the famous town of Dürnstein this morning, and dock in the wine growing town of Emmersdorf, at the western end of the Wachau, at 09.00. A coach excursion can show you more of the beautiful Wachau area (opt.) , of which the highlights are a drive through the region and a guided tour of the Benedictine Abbey at Melk. This excursion also includes a wine tasting. You leave Emmersdorf at 14.00 and continue upstream this afternoon, past the large Austrian city of Linz to reach the border with Germany.  On the last evening of your journey on the Danube, the captain of the DANUBIA will be delighted to welcome you to the Captain’s Gala Dinner.

Day 7  The DANUBIA arrives at Passau, the town where the rivers meet, at about 8.00 a.m. Disembarkation by 9 a.m. End of the cruise.
