Itinerary from Nuremberg to Budapest 2014

Day 1 Nuremberg
Embarkation starts from 4pm and ship departs at 6pm from Nuremberg. Enjoy a welcome cocktail party before dinner on board.

Day 2 Regensburg
Sail through the final stretch of the fascinating Main-Danube Canal in the morning. In Kelheim take an optional boat when joining our excursion to Weltenburg Abbey (Euro 48). The gorge is beautiful and the monastery, founded by Irish or Scottish monks in about 620 AD, is the oldest monastery in Bavaria. After a short tour of the abbey church you can sample some famous dark Weltenburg beer, which is brewed here in the oldest abbey brewery in the world.
You rejoin the ship at midday in Regensburg, one of Germany’s best-preserved medieval cities. Take part of the sightseeing tour (Euro 15) and visit the city’s architectural highlights, including the Old Town Hall and the Porta Pretoria. In the evening there will be Bavarian entertainment on board the ship.

Day 3 Passau - Linz
In the morning arrival in Passau, the Bavarian city where the rivers Inn and Ilz join the Danube. Optional walking tour (Euro 15) around the old quarter of Passau historic buildings. See the St. Stephen's cathedral (which has the world's largest organ consisting of 17,974 pipes and 233 registers), the new Bishop's residence and the town hall. Alternatively you can visit Salzburg, the city where Mozart was born, by taking an excursion (Euro 87) starting here in Passau and ending in Linz (Austria’s third-largest city). Visit the old quarter of Salzburg, with its world famous Baroque architecture, Unesco World Heritage site. The excursion ends in Linz, where the ship has docked meanwhile. You can also join a guided walking tour of Linz (Euro 16) for those who have not taken the excursion to Salzburg. After dinner the sails towards the Wachau district.

Day 4 Wachau Valley - Vienna
Early morning reach the Wachau district,after cruising through the narrow Strudengau, docking in Melk / Emmersdorf during breakfast. Take  an interesting optional coach excursion through the Wachau (Euro 51), driving first to the 900-year old Benedictine abbey of Melk. On a guided tour you see the bishops’ rooms, the Emperor’s gallery, the marble hall, the
altars and the library. Listen to a short organ recital in the abbey church. Then drive through the picturesque scenery to Dürnstein, one of the best-known wine villages in the Wachau. At the end of the tour we invite you to have a
glass of wine at a local restaurant. During lunch the ship continues downstream to Vienna (Austria’s capital), arrival in the evening. After dinner on board you can take our “Vienna at night” (Euro 35) excursion on which you drive through the Wienerwald to the Kahlenberg, Vienna’s best viewpoint, with a view of the city over vineyards. Then a drive through the traditional wine village Grinzing takes you to oldest champagne cellars in Austria. The ship remains moored overnight in Vienna

Day 5 Vienna
In the morning join our optional sightseeing tour (Euro 30) of Vienna and visit its most important sights. Drive on the  Ringstrasse, into the Schwarzenbergplatz, passing by the Karlskirche and Vienna’s stunning opera house, where there’ll be time to visit the building or shop for souvenirs. Last stop is at the city’s famous St. Stephan’s cathedral, (possibility of visit inside). In the afternoon you can take an optional excursion to the Schoenbrunn castle (Euro 41), one of Vienna’s
most beautiful buildings. After dinner you could attend a music performance called “The Sound of Vienna” (Euro 48) where the Salonorchester „Alt Wien“, one of the famous interpreters of classical music, entertains the guests. The ship departs Vienna after midnight.

Day 6  Bratislava
Continue downstream to Slovakia during the early hours, docking at Bratislava for the day. You can join an optional city tour (Euro 30) of Bratislava to discover the city’s major sights. From its 13th- century castle there are breathtaking views over the countryside where three countries - Slovakia, Austria and Hungary - meet. In the afternoon take our optional excursion to the Imperial Festival Palace Castle Hof (Euro 40)with its magnificent Baroque buildings built in the early 18th century.  Tonight join the Captain's Gala dinner while the ship’s orchestra will, as usual, entertain everyone with its spirited playing.

Day 14 Budapest
Morning arrival  at Budapest, Hungary’s famous capital lying on both sides of the Danube River. The city made up of two
parts: Buda and Pest, built on opposite banks of the Danube. Buda, with its cobbled streets and medieval architecture, is the older and more graceful part while Pest, with its wide avenues and impressive 19th-century public buildings, is the administrative and commercial centre. East meets West in this fascinating city, which has an amazing variety of shops and restaurants. Joint the optional sightseeing tour (Euro 30) of Budapest which  takes you up to historic Buda Castlewith splendid views of both Buda and Pest. The tour includes the 500-year-old Matthias Church, St. Stephen’s Basilica, the distinctive Fishermen’s Bastion, the marvellous Royal Palace and much more. In the afternoon you have a choice of two excursions: you can either visit Castle Gödöllö with horseshow (Euro 44) or discover Szentendre, the little artists’ village (Euro 31). After dinner  pass by the magnificently floodlit buildings on both sides of the river and under the illuminated chain bridge. A gypsy band will be playing with a performance by a Hungarian folklore group on board.

Day 8
Disembarkation after breakfast in Budapest. End of the cruise.

Itinerary from Budapest to Nuremberg 2014

Day 1 Budapest
Embarkation in the Hungarian capital Budapest starts at 4pm. Enjoy a welcome cocktail party before dinner. During dinner the ship will cruise up and down the Danube river passing the magnificently floodlit buildings on both sides of the river and going under the illuminated chain bridge. A lively gypsy band will add to the local atmosphere later on. The ship remains moored overnight in Budapest.

Day 2 Budapest

Day 4 Vienna
Vienna - the city of the waltz, coffee houses, the Prater park and one of the world's finest opera houses. Take part in our Vienna  sightseeing tour (Euro 30) visit the city’s most important sights, taking you along the Ringstrasse, into the Schwarzenbergplatz, passing by the Karlskirche and Vienna’s stunning opera house. Later you also see the famous Hundertwasser apartment block, part of Vienna’s unusual modern architecture, with time available to visit the building or to shop for souvenirs. Last stop is at the city’s famous St. Stephan’s cathedral, with time to see round inside. The coach then drives back to the ship along the Danube canal. In the afternoon you can take an optional excursion to the Schoenbrunn Palace (Euro 41), one of Vienna’s most beautiful buildings. After dinner you could attend a music performance called “The Sound of Vienna” (Euro 48)  where the Salonorchester „Alt Wien“, one of the famous interpreters of classical music, entertains the guests. Day 5 Wachau -Linz
This morning is at leisure, seeing the lovely scenery of the Wachau district from the sundeck. The
ship moors in Melk / Emmersdorf at midday. Take  an interesting optional coach excursion through the Wachau (Euro 51), driving first to the 900-year old Benedictine abbey of Melk. On a guided tour you see the bishops’ rooms, the Emperor’s gallery, the marble hall, the altars and the library. Listen to a short organ recital in the abbey church. After dinner the vessel continues upstream to Linz.

Day 6 Linz -Regensburg
In the morning the ship arrives in Linz, Austria’s third-largest city. Join our city walk (Euro 16) where you can admire the most important sights of Linz or visit Salzburg, the city where Mozart was born, by taking an optional excursion (Euro 87)
starting here in Linz and ending in the Bavarian city of Passau. Visit the old quarter of Salzburg, one of the best-preserved city centres north of the Alps and Unesco World Heritage site. In the afternoon the vessel reaches Passau, Bavaria’s most eastern city, where those on the Salzburg excursion rejoin us. Passau’s impressive Baroque cathedral houses the largest church organ in the world (with 17,388 pipes and 231 registers) and most of its main sights are very close to the Danube.
If you have not taken the excursion to Salzburg you’ll have time to explore Passau on your own or join a walking tour (euro 15) to see the highlights with a local guide. The vessel will leave Passau in the evening and spend the night cruising upstream through Bavaria towards Regensburg.

Day 7 Regensburg
Morning arrival in  Regensburg, one of Germany’s best-preserved medieval cities. Take part in the optional sightseeing tour (Euro 15) and visit the city’s many impressive architectural and historical highlights, including the Old Town Hall and the Porta Pretoria. After lunch take an optional boat trip when you join our excursion to Weltenburg Abbey (Euro 48). The gorge is beautiful and the monastery, founded by Irish or Scottish monks in about 620 AD, is the oldest monastery in Bavaria. After a short tour of the abbey church you can sample some famous dark Weltenburg beer, which is brewed here in the oldest abbey brewery in the world. Those who have taken this excursion then rejoin the vessel in Kelheim, from which it casts off during dinner.

Day 8 Nuremberg
Disembarkation is after breakfast in Nuremberg. End of the cruise.
